India, Japan sign MoU To Develop Indian Cities

India and Japan signed the cultural agreement of Varanasi-Kyoto which focuses on how to preserve heritage while building smart cities. The agreement was signed between Kyoto Mayor Daisaku Kadokawa and India`s Ambassador to Japan Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa.
The signing of the Partner City Affiliation MoU marks the launch of smart heritage city programme, between India and Japan. Under this, Varanasi – which is PM Modi's constituency – will be developed as a 'smart city', with cooperation and experience of Kyoto, the Japanese 'smart city' which is a confluence of heritage and modernity.
The Kyoto-Varanasi agreement which was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe comes a day ahead of Mr Modi's day long effort to understand what makes Kyoto tick. As per the agreement, both the cities will endeavour to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, arts, academics, heritage conservation and city modernisation.
Modi has also made a visit to Kyoto to see the experiment there considering that he intends to build 100 smart cities in India.
