India Continues to Face Electricity shortage

shriram | 8th January 2014 | Forest And Environment

India loses about Rs 4,14,800 crore of its Gross Domestic Product due to electricity shortage, says a report. Grid power is obviously necessary for any industrialized economy. Some of the areas receive only an hour of electricity every day. It has become a common sight that angry citizens take to the streets in protesting against the abysmal power situation. State governments blame Centre for not allocating enough electricity to their states. The Governments try to blame its predecessor. The people do not buy this excuse. India is set to start electricity exports to Bangladesh, despite its own chronic power shortages.
